Train to Become a Workshop Facilitator for RISE: Reaching Into Self-Empowerment

Become a volunteer workshop facilitator for our new RISE Institute, a new series of personal development workshops for women who need help setting and reaching life and career goals. The objective of the RISE Institute is to provide participants with self-esteem-based life skills, which, along with our regular array of job readiness offerings, can empower women to find employment and reach other personal goals.

Volunteers are trained in the RISE curriculum and materials. Workshop sessions may include such concepts as “Transforming Fears” and “Positive Affirmations: How to Find the Yes in Your Mind.” Day and evening workshops are available. The workshop schedule will be posted, and facilitators can select their own dates. Two facilitators can sign up for each workshop module.

  • Attend three half-day (9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) training sessions.
  • Attend group dynamics/listening skills training.
  • Commit to presenting a minimum of six 90-minute workshops during the year (presentations will be done in pairs).
  • Prior experience facilitating groups, presenting to groups, and working with women a plus.

Train to Become a Volunteer for Moving Forward 2012

Become a volunteer for our new Moving Forward program, which gives teenage girls in the foster care system the support they need to plan for their futures. Held in the evenings at the Veterans’ Courthouse in Newark, the three-week, nine-hour workshop series helps the girls with career direction, job readiness, and college planning. The participants are referred to NCJW from CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and DYFS (Division of Youth and Family Services).

Volunteers should have some experience in current job-search skills and enjoy working with teens. You will work with NCJW/Essex staff assisting the girls with job applications, interview skills, and other skills.

Moving Forward sessions in Newark are planned for Tuesday evenings: May 1, May 8, and May 15. Volunteers must be able to attend all three workshop evenings, as well as a three-hour training at the NCJW/Essex office. The training date will be announced. Check our website at NCJWessex.org.
